Default Rocket Shop Cafe

Since were on the subject of Rockets as of late here is a link to Harmin's new restaurant being built at Bakersfield Municipal Airport, L45. This airport is highly contested by the enlightened and anoited ones serving on the city councel who want to close it for developement. Their claims are that it serves only a few rich, etc...... This also happens to be the home of the Rocket and Mr. Harmon along with a very active EAA chapter.

Not being an insider I don't know the details, but from news reports John Harmon has put up a significant amount of his own money to open a restaurant on the field that will cater to locals that are not flyers, and also to bring airplanes into the field to help with the economy of the forgotten side of town. This restaurant will have a Nascar theme with gift shops selling Nascar hats, shirts, etc., and also Rocket attire. From the sounds of it, this will not be some rinky dink little airport cafe that draws only a few local pilots. It seems he is trying to put together a really neat facility to breath new life into this airport.

How about we all put the Rocket Shop Cafe @ L45 into our list of must see places and support one of ours who is making such a large effort to protect one of our airports. Watch his web site listed below for the grand opening. Maybe the CA folks can plan to attent the grand opening and fill the seats with grateful pilots. I for one plan to frequent this restaurant on weekend fly outs and support Mr. Harmon for his efforts to keep a targeted airport open.
