You might search for 121.5 vs 406 MHz. That is the issue. I have a 121.5 MHz unit and no desire to get 406 MHz. However, I will not be able to legally fly into some countries (eg Mexico after 2 April 2010).

CAP folks may diss my view but I have no faith that an ELT will activate...121.5 or 406 MHz.

I do carry a 406 MHz PLB with GPS which is more likely to result in my rescue if I am alive.

I've got a 450 and bought a PLB about 6 months ago. I been thinking about upgrading to a 451.

If I can find a good deal at Sun n Fun, I'll probably make the switch.

The issue again is 121.5 vs 406 MHz. I have seen no effort by the FAA to mandate 406 MHz ELTs. But I don't see everything. AOPA may have better insight into this.
