Default Oil Changes?

Do you use Tach or Hobbs time? Or does it depend?

Just search and you can see the flow of discussions.

I used flight hours on my old Aeronca, cause that is what I had.
I use Hobbs on my RV6, cause that is what I have.
I use Tach on my Bucker, you guest it, cause that is what I have.

I am conservative and dont wait 50 hours regardless. My Bucker does not get 50 hours in a year anyway, but it gets its oil changed at least than often.

Traditionally, an engine would be serviced based on tach time, because, well, that 's what folks had attached to an engine. Makes sense if you assume that the engine should be serviced based on "number of revolutions", which is what the tach really records.

I guess I never really thought about the fact that i am now using "real" clock hours, because I base my service intervals on my EFIS clock hours. But I also don't feel bad if I don't go an hour or two beyond the regular interval.
