Default Different tip-up latch

I was talking with another VAF member and two time offender about the RV tip-up latch.

He does not want to install the scissors type latch that goes through the side of the fuselage. Not even the larger aftermarket one, which he has bought and not installed.

Others must have made the same modification while building. If so, what did they do and how.

We have seen one twist lock in place of the scissors device but that leaves us both cold as you would have to swing a long lever on the inside of the fuselage, which might get in the way of his planned Classic Aero Designs Aviator side panels.

Suggestions, ideas?

What's his motivation?

Hard to make suggestions if we don't know what he doesn't like about the existing latch designs (Van's standard latch and the beefier and flush Attaway latch).

Bill, contact Frank: fstringham7a

I didn't get good pictures, but He had a nifty set up using a handle out of a Dodge minivan or something on the inside and a key on the outside.

The motivation is to get rid of the standard release that requires a big slice in the side of the fuselage. Something more elegant is desired.

The obvious silly rejoinder here is to build a slider and the latch problem goes away....

[this from someone who has and loves his tipup]
