Vans tachometer transducer problem (ISS brand)

Has anyone had trouble with the Van's tachometer transducer? Mine went out about 80 hours and I had them send another which was bad right out of the box. Pretty frustrating, now I still have no tach and need to get another replacement. Can I use a transducer from another manufacturer?
