Default What sort of nut do VANS intend should be used here?

What sort of nut do VANS intende should be used here? (middle of picture)
I am talking about the nut that retains the steel pin that stops the break assembly rotating on the axle. My RV4 plans indicate a 1/4-20 (coarse thread) , but my question is should it be a nylock or steel? I am concerned that under hard braking it might get quite warm and the nylock fail. Thoughts?

My vote is for a nylock nut. It is not gonna get that hot on the end of the bolt. The brake cylinder o-rings would fail long before the nut falls off.

Nylock nuts are fine here.

Default AN363

Remember you can always use an AN363 self locking nut if you are concerned about elevated temps. They are good to 450 deg F.

BTW these are 1/4 UNC nuts. Vans recently supplied me replacements that were nylocs for my RV-6.

The original steel s/l nuts cracked and split while threading the nuts on these stud bolts (zero torque applied). I suspect the bolts have slightly oversize thread.
