Default Narco Transponder intermittent

I have the AT-165. Every so often the controllers will tell me they have lost my return and ask me to re-cycle the transponder. Sometimes this works to restore the signal, sometimes they give me a new code and that works. Sometimes I have the problem after an hour and sometimes after several hours. Sometimes the problem goes away. The unit was bench tested this week for several hours and worked perfectly. I will troubleshoot the co-ax and the 2 bnc connectors next time I'm at the airport. The technician didn't have good things to say about this model of transponder so I wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience and could let me know the outcome or any other possible avenues to search.
