Default RE:Vans Flight Info...

Hi.

I have recently been continuing my flight prep in preparaton for my first go at my RV7A, N74BZ, (BUZZ). I am getting alot of good flight time in a wonderful 172 with my 91 years young CFI friend.

Now to the questions. I have been able to find some info written by Van's about flying our RVs. But, I have been unable to locate his epistle on his step by step process in flying/landing an RV. Does anyboby have this info or knows where it can be found.

My RV should fly this week in the able hands of my friend Gene who owns an RV7A and has tons of experience. I will be getting the transition training shortly.

Frank @ 1L8 ...RV7A... let the fun begin

I just looked it up - its in The RVator Issue 6, 2002 and Issues 1 & 2, 2003.

It all boils down to accurate speed control in the approach configuration, flying all the way to the run way and controlling the flare just before touch down. If you do a high flare and try to let it sink in C172 or Mary Poppins with her umbrella style it will drop out from underneath you. RVs just don't have enough wing or flap to get away with that. You realize that the first time you stall one. It breaks really cleanly unlike a C172 that seems to mush for ever before finally dropping the nose.

The articles are good stuff. If you can't get them elsewhere perhaps I can scan them and email to you. Is that allowed? It would be good if Doug could post. Perhaps he'd need permission from Van's.

Default Hi Frank

Jim's correct in that you don't want to let it fall out from under you like you can a 150 or 172.

I tell all the guys that come here, to land them like you would a Cessna 210 or Bonanza...nose high but not stalled. These short Hershey-bar wings do sink like a set of car keys if you get too slow.

Regards,
