Removing Rattle can primer?
I just purchased an RV10 empennage kit that had the HS, VS, elevator and rudder completed, and they were all primed on the interior AND exterior with what appears to be grey rattle can primer. For several reasons, I want to remove the exterior primer, not the least of which is that my future painter probably won't warranty his work if he is putting paint over someone else's primer. Along the same line, I don't know how this primer was applied.
Soo...any tips on the best/easiest way to remove the primer? I'm hoping I don't have to scotchbrite it all off. Solvent's, or buffer with light abrasive pad?

Acetone / MEK should take it right off.
I wouldn't worry too much about the painter; they would likely strip it all off on their own anyway. At least that's what happened when I had my Archer (re)painted - they stripped it down to the aluminum and started from there.

Could likely be NAPA 7220 if it's dull gray, MEK will take it off in about half a heartbeat.

Built an off-plan RV9A with too much fuel and too much HP. Should drop dead any minute now.

Coleman primer remover
I use coleman lantern fuel, works great and doesn't ruin a 10 dallor bill and much more of it. Gene

Thanks
Awesome. Thanks. I'll try the solvent and clean them up!

Here's another option. Just leave it for now. The exterior will be sanded with a dual action sander prior to painting. That should do the job.

You can leave it. The painter will take it down to bare metal anyway, as part of the prep.

leave it
It's not hurting anything now by being there, in fact it's probably helping somewhat. It's not difficult to get off with MEK /etc...and it's going to be just as easy still when you do get ready to paint it.
I would leave it until ready to paint.

Well, OK, I guess I'll build
Alright, I guess it doesn't hurt to leave it on for now. I figured it would cost me more for the painter to take it off, but I guess there's no harm in waiting. So, I guess I'll build a flap tomorrow instead!
The MEK worked like advertised.
