Default Why an RV Red Class?

The AirVenture Cup race to Oshkosh each year provides two classes strictly for RVs, RV Blue for RVs with 360 cu.in. engines and RV Red for 320 cu. in. and under engines. Except at the top end of the RV Blue class (Huft, Ross & Carroll) the speeds are not very far apart and the entries in the red class are dwindling. In 2005 there were 8 entries in the RV red class, in 2006 the number declined to 7, in 2007 there were 4,in 2008 there were only 2 entries and this year there is only 1 (ONE!). The EAA provides three custom trophies for the class but it seems to me to be an enticement that has lost its appeal and there should just be an RV class or the current RV Blue should be changed to RV Red with engines from 360 cu.in. and smaller and the RV Blue Class should be for RVs with engines of greater than 360 cu.in displacement. The current classification isn't meaningful anymore.

Possibly as there become more RV-3s interest will pick up in this class again. I don't know, just speculating.
