Garmin prices?

I love Garmin products, but I hate the way they "fix" prices. At the moment, everyone on the planet is selling the 396 for $2495, but they are offering the car installation kit for free, which is a couple hundred bucks worth of stuff. Best I can tell, that offer ends at the end of this month.

I don't really need the 396 for several months, and if I thought it would go down in price, I'd wait, but if I'm not mistaken, Garmin has a history of keeping their prices fixed for a long time. If they're going to force everyone to sell at the $2495 price, then I'd probably go ahead and order the 396 now, in order to get the car kit.

Anyone care to speculate on what will happen to the price of the 396 after the first of the year?

I'll speculate. Nothing will happen. At least not til Garmin comes out with the 496. The 296 never dropped in price til the 396 showed up. What is the 496? Well, since the 396 already has inflight wx, traffic, comms interface, and inflight entertainment via xm radio, the 496 will have xmtv, in-flight snack service, and dual axis autopilot .

BTW Rusty, care to speculate on the availability of scales at 2R4 this weekend .
