Default Aileron push tube locking

Hi

How is everyone locking the rod ends to the push tubes for the Ailerons. Are you just using the lock nut or are you doing more.

Thanks
Nigel

Nigel,

I did what thousands of other RV builders did, just used the locknut and torqued it to spec.

Default And make sure that......

......the tube is long enough to engage more than half of the rod end threads at each end. That way it can't come undone even if the lock nuts do loosen. But not so long as to foul the tube end fittings on the bell cranks at full deflection

I was paranoid and added a drop (or 2) of thread-locker. I had barely 1/2 the threads engaged, but I wanted to make sure it wouldn't vibrate loose.

Default Torque tube locking

I added a star lock washer, torqued the jamb nut and then put a bead of torque putty across the nut and onto the bearing shank for a quick visual check during preflight. No movement so far and any torque tubes with this method.

What are the torque values on those things, anyway?
