Unhappy fuel guage wiring

This question is so basic, I'm almost embarrassed to ask it.

How are they wired? Please be specific. I wired mine in as I thought they should go, with the positive lead to the guages coming from the switched power post for instruments. When I turn on the instrument breaker, the breaker trips. I pulled the leads off one at a time to isolate the offending lead to the guages.

What am I doing wrong? I've got the standard Van's float senders wired to Stewart Warner guages.

Default Fuel Guage

For wiring, see http://www.vansaircraft.com/pdf/Gauge_Install.pdf

Don't rule out a short to ground along the + wiring or possibly even a bad guage.

Thanks. I've wired according to the diagram, so there must be a fault in the wire or the guage.
