Default Whirlwind Prop experience

Just a note to relay my recent experience with Whirlwind Props -

I have a 200RV on my RV-6 with an IO-360. I have had an ongoing problem with it slinging grease, basically since new and for the first 60 hrs. to date. Sometimes just a little, sometimes a fair amount. Always enough to get on the windscreen and require a wipe down.

An initial call to Whirlwind and Greg told me they had had only one pervious case, but it isn't a serious flight safety issue (lot's of grease in there). If it persisted bring it up.

Finally, I did that. Flew from Pittsburgh up to 7D9 to meet Greg. After a slightly late start, and fumbling to find the small private strip, and a very challenging landing, I arrived at 1130. A call to Greg and he was there. Took one look, wiggled a blade and we dug right in. Off came the prop, five minute drive back to the shop, complete teardown, rebuild and upgrade to all the latest innards with a shim adjustment to improve sealing.

Back to 7D9, re-mount and saftey wire (even a PITA for Greg) and a test runup by 1730. All checked 4.0. Good flight home and no leaks after 3 subsequent flights.

In summary - Greg was fantastic. Courteous, professional and accomadating. Even helped me with a problem with my tail wheel link. No charge and a certificate for the overhaul and back to a 0 time prop.

Excellent customer service!! For those of you with one, you know how good the performance is. Smooth and fast. For those getting one, you will love it and the service.

By the way, the Titan P-51's are way cool!!

Default Yep

I have one that was purchased from WW when it was in El Cajon, CA. I was having surging problems and at 55 hours a seal let loose. It was actually perfect timing, as I was taking the plane out of service for paint. The prop was sent to Titan for service. Turns out a seal was improperly installed. This caused the surging. I had the prop back within a couple of weeks.

The performance is great. As already noted, the WW is very smooth.

I'm in on the group buy for another for my new project. You won't be disappointed.

Frank, there is nothing special (tools or procedures) for installing a 200RV. I've personally and alone removed/reinstalled mine four or five times. Standard safety wire/safety wire pliers, torque wrench, and this: http://www.averytools.com/p-734-hart...er-wrench.aspx. I believe the torque is 65ft-lbs. Getting the safety wire in can be a challenge depending on how the holes end up aligning after you torque the bolts. Sometimes you have to loosen them, insert the wire, then torque them, then finish the wire.

BTW, I too have had outstanding service from Greg.
