Default Quick Access Top Cowl

Just curious if anyone has seen a cowl on an RV that is hinged either down the center (split top cowl) or on one side. I really like to be able to take a quick peak at my engine prior to flights, but with most RV's, the only access you have is looking through the oil dipstick door. I'd love to be able to build a top cowl that can be hinged on one side and swung open for quick inspections, as opposed to having to be completely removed. Any thoughts as to how tough this would be to do, or any reasons for not doing it?

See if that link works for you. If not, go to the links page on Vans site and under RV9 look for Gary Newsted. Excellent site and lots of great info.

By the way....I wondered the same thing about cowls on RVs too!
