Default Corrosion protection for rudder pedal & rudder slide weldments

How do I protect the steel tubes which connect and allow rotation of the rudder pedal (wd-804) about the rudder pedal slide (wd-816)? I assume I cannot prime these surfaces because the primer would just wear off and goop up any lubricant. If I use a silocone spray such as LPS1, will it not eventually wear away or wash out?
