Default Changing from Mech tach to electric

I heard some time ago, if removing the mechanical tach cable and just caping off the cable port with the available cap for this.. there could be something that can drop down into the case..causing damage.. The trick was to just cut off the mechanical cable leaving it connected would prevent this...
Anyone know of this??? I'm wanting to change from my mechanical flakey tach to an electric and wondering if this is a REAL concern...
Thanks... Sheldon

The tach covers screw on to the accessory case just like your tach cable does. They have a provision for a safety wire so if properly installed, there's no safety issue. If it came undone, it would flow out the engine compartment.

Like Randy says, there's no safety issue. The cover is just a dust cover. The oil seal is inside.
