Default E-721 Elevator trim tab hinge help

Well for the first time in the empannage, I am getting really frustrated.
I am having issues getting the trim tab lined up with the elevator, and drilling the elevator side of the hinge. The directions/plans here leave a lot to be desired (I really wish the hinge was a pre-punched item!)

Tonight, I had the trailing edge aligned, as well as the side edge. I went ahead and drilled the elevator side of the hinge. While everything now lines up well, the holes are much closer to the front edge of the hinge than I'd like (see below).

I have carefully checked the distance on the trim tab side, and I am right at 1/4" as indicated in the plans. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong, or how to do this correctly.... I think this was my third hinge (dimpled the first one, cut the second one too short)... at this rate I might as well order 10 of them.

Thanks,
Jason

Jason,
If everything lines up perfect, leave it like that. Theoretically more force
will be applied to the side where you have more meat (edge distance). and joint will be stronger then when the holes are in the middle.
Just my opinion. I would leave it.
