Default RV'ers Mississippi

My son and I are going down to gulfport. Just wondering if there are any rv's in that area and any ideas on things to do or places to stay? and a place to park the RV -4.

Thanks

I lived there until Katrina. Mainly a summer resort are (fishing and beach etc.) Year around lots af Casinos, eats, shows. Used to be a nice civil war museum (Beauvois) but it washed away. Mobile is about an hours drive East and there is a battleship, submarine and several aircraft to visit. New Orleans is an hour in the other direction.

I doubt Gulfport (KGPT) has inexpensive hangar space. You might try Stennis, Pascagoula, or Diamond head airports.

For parking the RV, try Ocean Springs Airport (5R2). Not the best fuel prices, but for hanger/tiedown space they're probably the best bet.

Thumbs up Gary Bricker

I lived close in Mandeville La. for several years. Stennis space center is close. They tested shuttle engine there at one time. Also Stennis airport is large and maybe some hanger area. Stennis is just in MS from La. Been a while since I was there.

Wife and I flew into Mandeville, St. Tammany Reg. just over a year ago to visit friends. The FBO there charged us $20.00 for a night in their big hangar. You might want to check it out, but it's a ways from Gulfport---30-45min

Call the FBO at 985-893-0096 for more info.

Default I live in Mandeville

and have an RV-6 based at a private feild near there (LA13).

I think you should be able to find something closer to GPT than St Tammany. Stennis is probably a good bet.

How long will you be there?

Default Gulfport Area

It's going to be the last week of march when we go down there. We're not commited to Gulfport, thats just where the dart landed on the map. So anything in that area will work. Are there plenty of places to stay in the area? also we might try some fishing.

Thanks
Tim Porter

Default I think you are in for a nice trip.

Lots of options for parking that are cheap if the hangar is not a requirment. A few options that are reasonable if a hangar is a requirement.

Too many things to do to list. You'll need to be more specific on your goals. Place to eat, casinos, live music, golf, fishing,... Lots of fishing, but you'll have to decide on what type you want to do. Will it be offshore for tuna, or inshore for specs and reds.

Many places to stay and much to do as well. You might want to hop around a bit. If you want to make some nice hops, I might be interested in joining you as I'm generally looking for excuses to fly, especially with other in the RV community.

Shade tree is a really nice little grass strip with really friendly owners. I enjoy popping over for a visit every now and then.

You may want a quick hop over to Dauphine Island (4R9).

Send me a PM and I'll be happy to be more specific.

Cheers,

If you hook up with Dale, a couple places we always took vistors. Morton's in Madisonville for good seafood and the Alligator farm on IH 55. We really miss the food. Both close to Mandeville.
