Default does anyone know purpose of the door plates?

I called Vans and ask them why there are .032 1 inch wide plates mounted over the nylon blocks at the bottom of the door where the latch pin goes through the nylon block and into the framework around the cabin. They did not know. Does anyone have any idea?

Is this on the RV-10? I've been studying this today and assumed they were to hold the seal. But every time I assume anything, it gets me in trouble.

Default oops, sorry, it is an RV-10

That makes sense since we are looking at a ninety degree turn at the corners. I am using a little different pin and block originally designed by rivethead. Probably will use a different seal.
