Wiring .206 Mic Plug

I am trying to make my own headset, based on an old thread I read here. I purchased a mic and plug form Aircraft Spruce

Noise-Canceling Microphone. Fits all C40 Model Headsets (David Clark, Softcomm, Telex, etc.) Part No. 11-04838 $19.85

.206" COMMERCIAL MIC PLUG - (S-267) (PJ-068) Mates with JJ-033, S-12B, CES830. Black plastic handle with .206" dia. chrome plug. 3 conductors. solder plug and cable clamp. P/N 11-00702 $6.50

I will also use a set of NR-10 Comply Comfort earplugs.

My problem comes in the wiring on the mic to the plug. The mic has two wires. My first try was to put one wire to the 'Tip', the second wire to the 'Ring' and solder the shield to the 'Ground'. This didn't work.

Anyone have another idea on how to wire the mic to .206 plug???

Ideas would be appreciated.

The wire connections on a mic plug are as follows...
Mic ground goes to the sleeve (long portion)
Mic + goes to the ring
The tip is used for transmit key to activate transmit on the radio
(not used in your application)
