Auto fuel and older engines

Mahlon,

Is it safe to use auto fuel in my O-290-D2 that is running older (1950's vintage) valves, guides, and valve seats?

I realize the octane ratting isn't an issue with this engine, just the lack of led.

If I elect to run auto fuel, should I mix it with 25% 100LL?
