Default I'm often pleasantly surprised....

....by the incredible diversity and new faces that are encountered in this RV world! The wonderfully new relationships that are RV centered is unbelievable and in my opinion, one of the biggest rewards of building or owning an RV.

Today, a gentleman from Stockbridge, Georgia, named Spencer Grant, arrived at my doorstep. He had flown his -6 down for a BFR, so we headed out for lunch first. I sat in awe over a burger as he related his Flight Instructor status at different bases before and during WWII !! He talked about the BT-13 and what a killer it was...the T-6's and the B-25's and how he wanted to go to war and see action but they desperately needed flight instructors, so he stayed Stateside. About how we turned out combat-ready P-51 pilots in 160 hours and 7 months! How we lost almost every early fight with the Japanese until we learned new battlefield tactics and started kicking a$$. And he now flies an RV-6 after selling his Maule.......oh, he has a 35 acre Christmas tree farm and his own 1800' strip on it. Amazing guy...oh, and don't ask his age..he won't tell ya

It really made my day and he'll be at some of our fly-ins, including the one on Nov 8th in Millen (2J5). Let's see if I can load his picture.

Default Picture posting problems

...again. After I copy the "Thumbnails for forums 1", and paste it in the message, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. There is no "Direct link to image" option, Doug, on Imageshack. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

I have had the same problem with Image Shack's site lately. Maybe Doug can update the instructions on posting images so we can get the right link to make photos appear right on our posts. I dug around trying different links and gave up a few days ago. Hate to tug you away from the RV3 project Doug.

Here you go Pierre. You can compare the difference in my URL to yours.

I don't use Image Shack but when I clicked on the photo you posted a page came up with several link choices. I picked HTML and copied that link which was "<a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/'><img src='http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/3999/dscn0199kf8.jpg' border='0'/></a><br/><a href="http://g.imageshack.us/img359/dscn0199kf8.jpg/1/"><img src="http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/dscn0199kf8.jpg/1/w800.png" border="0"></a>". I pasted that link into the box you get when you pick the image icon on this site. Next I started at the beginning of the link and erased everything before the first occurence of "http://" then I erased everything after the first occurence of ".jpg" That is all that needed to be done. As a general rule what you want in the box the comes up when you pick the image icon should be in the form of "http://........ .jpg"

Pierre, I enjoyed reading your story. Thanks.

Here is how I've been using Imageshack. Follow the directions for inserting pictures, be sure the size is 800x600 and choose the "host it" button. After that I usually get an ad screen and minimize it. At the very bottom of the next Imageshack page there is "Show Advanced Linking". Click on that and copy the link for pasting in your post. Works for me but pm me if you are having anymore problems.

Default Thanks guys,

...I'm not the brightest candle in the box when it comes to advanced computer stuff.

Yea, Spencer had so many stories to tell that we just sat (Brian and me) for 45 minutes or so. He flew for Eastern for 30 years after the war, up to L-1011's. Gotta be in his upper 80's and what a guy....clear headed and all the proper techniques ending with a greaser three pointer too. I'm always impressed with the neck snapping acceleration of a CS equipped RV. His has 10:1 pistons too.

It made my day....just one of those for the memory books.

Thanks,

Sometimes it's a small world, and I found it interesting to see "Patience" again.
I knew the plane was in Georgia.
