Default Strobe Power Supplies

Hello fellow RVer's. I'm nearing the point of buttoning up the wings and would like to run the wiring for my strobe heads through the ribs prior to closing things up. But some confusion has set in regarding power supplies. I have seen many commercial power supplies available that are quite reliable and cost efficient. But, most of them are 4-plug connectors (plugs 1 and 2 alternate and 3-4 alternate flashes). Now I was told that if you only use three of the four plugs (which I intend on doing, both wings and the tail) this could result in premature failure of the power supply. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Also, many low-end strobe heads are rated at 20 watt/seconds or joules. Will these be compatible with a 50 or 75 watt power supply?
Any help here would be appreciated. I'm no electronics expert.
Thanks,
Jerry C.
