Default Lifesaver 6-pack

Has anyone HAD to use the 6-pack on one of the Garmin portables (ie: 196, 296, 396.....) or at least tried it under the hood?

Default Yep....

....mine's transferred from the -6A to my Air Tractor often since I also have 150 user waypoints (customer farms) and remote strips.

Coming back from Ft Pierce, I descended through a thin overcast and was very surprised at the almost instantaneous bank information. I'd be careful going up/down through a heavy black overcast without some good practice with a safety pilot aboard.

Regards,

Default I've practiced

I have a 496 and have also tried a 396 for a back up 6 pack. The 496 has a more powerful processor and updates more frequently.

I found the 396 update lag to make it difficult to use, but workable. But with the 496 I found I could fly under the hood pretty well on it. In either case some practice and refresher would be recommended, but it is a reasonable backup.

Default 6 pack backup

Do any of the other popular GPS systems (Lowrance, AV8TOR, ATC, etc...) have a similar feature?

If so any feedback on their effectiveness?
