First ride,costs
I finally found a ride in a RV 7A thanks to local Floyd P. This was Roberta Hegy's RV. What a nice plane. Floyd offered a ride after I contacted him, after a post I saw of his on VAF. He called shortly later and I was in an RV Floyd caught me off gaurd shortly after take-off and said your plane,WOW. I didn't know which hand to use at first and what the heck is this stick in the seat stuff,it didn't take much to get the feel. The plane was so easy to fly and that sucker climbed like I've never seen before. He let me fly for an HOUR, I've never banked that much, in my spam can your fighting the thing the entire bank, this thing just does it. Floyd did a couple t-goes at the end whoa baby what a rush of feelings,I love speed and controlling it.Well that little flight has cost me over $4000 so far and it hasn't been two weeks. I started the emp. yesterday! My Dad thinks I'm nuts, he loves to fly w/me but for some reason he's against me doing this, well get used to it cause I'm on my way. I have been wanting to do this for 15 yrs. I'm 57 and never should have waited, well now its happening. I am so pumped I can't sleep and all I think about is this RV. I was so excited when Floyd gave me the ride I forgot to offer gas money, sorry Floyd that was a mistake on my part. I took the class at synergy air in oregon, very good, thanks Wally. The journey begins,I was a single dad and the kids are gone, the dog said it was ok to do this and new gal ain't got no say in it,but she loves to fly and used to help her dad build show cars, maybe I have a build helper, time will tell. First ride costs
Congratulations Gene. I took that same expensive ride back in 2005, now I'm $20,000 pluss deep into an RV-9. So far I have no regrets and there are none in the foreseeable future. Good luck and keep banging rivets.

Glad you had a Great Ride!!! I know Floyd Loves that plane as much as I do, probably more, since he owns it now. It was certainly my favorite plane. Enjoy, Especially you, Floyd!!!

Don't worry about Dad
My father poo pooed on the ideal at first. He is a retired nuclear physicist that worked as an engineer (also a pilot). Shortly after I started on the wings, he started coming around. I got to him when I copied the folding small set of plans and mailed it to him. He went over them with a fine tooth come and declared Van's a quality project. Since then, no issues what so ever. Even came to visit and helped my build the ailerons.
Congrats on the start. It's addictive.

I would think that the best possible way to pay back an RV builder who let you fly his plane is for you to order a kit and start building your own and, when done, to take HIM up for an hour to fly yours.

Well the other way to pay them back is to put their builder's number on your order from Van's. They will shoot the builder some $$$
Don't exactly know how this works for Floyd but it's worth a try...

$$$FLIGHT
Congratulations and remember to keep your priorities right - your dog will always love you and you will always have that airplane after you finish it - don't give anyone the power to keep you from your dream.

Finders Fee
Oh yeah, that first flight is expensive. I was 9 yrs old and have been paying ever since.
Dave Burtons suggestion on the finders fee is the best. You should have received the form when you bought the empennage kit. If you can't find it, call/email Vans. Floyd will then get a nice finders fee check from Vans (meaning it costs you only the time to fill out the form). Can't beat it.
