Default transponder repair

I have a transponder that?s not transponding on the selected #'s. no matter what I dial in it sends 1200. They get my alt encoder fine but just 1200. They let me fly in their airspace after I ident, no problem but now just as soon as they give a code and they ask for ident, they jokingly say, "still not fixed huh? Gas must cost too much not leaving any $ for repair. N1200 You are cleared to land runway 28 winds .....................
Embarrassing.
where can I send it for repair or will it be cheaper to replace with a good used unit?

Whether or not it's worth fixing probably depends on the brand and model - if it's and old Narco, well..... (I just threw one of those away)

found a guy in pa. he turned it in one day and for only $67.
3 out of 4 knobs were broken. couldn't change squawk codes. he even sent it back BEFORE he told me how much to send him. he didn't take credit cards. came back certified and ready to go.
nice people still exist!

I had good luck with Bevan-Rabell in Witchita, KS a few years back. Can't remember the actual cost versus work performed, but do remember the rate seemed very fair and the unit has only needed one minor tune up in the 8+ years since.

Default PA Guy?

Fred,

I'm having some transponder issues myself (Terra). Do you have the info for the guy that did your repairs?

Thank you

Bill

Default Terra Transponders

The only place that will do major repairs on Terra is Gulf Coast Avionics (in Louisianna I think) as they bought all the equipment when Terra sold out to Tremble who is also out of general aviation. I have Terra in a Cessna which I had to get repaired and local shops checked a few things, declared it serious and sent it in. $550 later and it works good!!!

Hey Fred, You could return the niceness to this fellow by giving out his name. He might get some business which would be handy so he is there the next time you or one of us needs him. Thanks,

I think FreeFlight is the final outfit with most Terra parts but Gulf Coast was better to work with and fixed something FreeFlight would not....
