Default InOp Governor

I am preparing for installation of a Whirlwind 151. To save down time, I would like to have the governor installed and waiting for the prop when it arrives.

Can the governor be installed and the plane flown without the prop?

I know you can have the governor pad and hose/tubing installed. You can also pre-run your control cable. I think if you install the governor, it could route pressurized oil to the front of the crankshaft which may blow out the plug.

I would install the pad/hose and the cable, leave the governor off just in case. Shouldn't take much time to install later.

Maybe someone else has better info.

I think that would be a good trick to fly an airplane with out the fan out front???

I'm going to say as long as you still have the plug in the front of the crank, you should be ok.

Don't run the governor with the front plug in the crankshaft. It WILL blow out!

Then you sure better pierce that rear plug, or you'll have oil everywhere but in the engine!
