496 Memory

My 496 indicates that additional memory can be added. I'm having trouble locating a source for the memory. Is it off the shelf memory or is it exclusive to Garmin. Any recommendations for amount of memory. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately Garmin decided to profit on a propitiatory design for their memory. I'd talk to them about your needs for additional memory. I have a little extra installed to allow me to load more street map data for auto use. I'm not sure you need it for anything else, but ask them, their aviation help desk is the best.
