Default SQI Advanced Formation Clinic and OSH Flybys

Pre-Oshkosh Advanced Formation Clinic will again be at Rock Falls IL
(KSQI) on 25-27 Jul. Unlike last year when we had a specific number
(35) to achieve, this year we will see how many are interested and
sign up and I will draw up appropriate sequence of formations. All
participants must have FFI cards and be recommended.

For room reservations, I have a block of 18 rooms at Holiday Inn (815-
626-5500), mention Formation Clinic, ask for Megan. Also, I have a
block of 20 rooms across the street at the Super 8 (815-626-8800),
mention Formation Clinic, ask for Julia.

We will count noses and do a short classroom session Friday
afternoon, then Sat morning we will will fly two rounds of 4-ship for
warm up, then Sat afternoon will will brief and fly the large
formation (with chase/photo/spare) with an extensive debrief, then
fly 4-ships with remaining time. We will have a dinner Sat evening
at the Candlelight Inn, as we did last year. Sunday morning will
will again practice the large formation, specifically addressing the
debrief items from Sat. Then, we will depart SQI at 1130 as a large
formation headed to OSH, do a flyby and land using our scheduled
arrival procedures at 1230.

Monday is off day for all as that's when I do my final coordination.
We will try to fly Tues, Wed, and Thurs at OSH, but I never know
specifically when until a week or so before. I anticipate the large
formation flybys will be at ~1130-1200 each day.

I will use Kahuna (Team RV and Palmetto), Sharpie (SoCal), Dula
(Vegas), Wizz (Rats and OVRV), Pappy (Hawks), Randy Lervold
(Northwest) as the Contact Points for the various formation
communities. Please count noses within your groups to find out how
many of them will commit to SQI clinic and OSH (See dates, times,
events, reservation # above). Please respond as soon as possible
with your nose count and we will see how the numbers play out. I
need Last Name, First Name, Call Sign, Type Plane/Smoke, Tail #,
Email, Contact #. Make contact with one of the above or me at sturdy614-at-yahoo-dot-com.

Please make your motel reservations ASAP.

To fly in the large formation at OSH, the SQI practice is mandatory.

Stu, Is there a squadron of 10's flying formation? Last year it looked like there were only 2 seaters flying at OSH.

BTW, it still gives me chills to think about 35 RV's as sharp as I have ever seen a formation fly over Aeroshell Square. Tight, crisp, well spaced, well disciplined in the air and on the ground. The engine roar was unforgetable. The pride I felt when I replied; "They are RV's. Van Aircraft Homebuilts." when someone asked me what kind of planes they were. "Oh, I thought they were War Birds!" he said. That formation of RV's was something special to see.

Well Done..... to all involved.

The local paper had a reporter out to cover the practice on Saturday.
