WeatherMeister wind direction mag or true?
Anybody know if Dan is indicating the wind direction in his forecast is referenced to true north or magnetic north?
Duane

Since he is using NWS data, it would be 'true' not magnetic. But either way, since it is rounded to 10 degrees, it a bit of non-issue. Here is an easy conversion chart:

Generally, if the report is spoken (ATIS/Tower), it's mag. If it's written (METAR), it's true. My feet are too hamfisted to feel the difference.

mag or true
Like my old flight instructor used to say...If it's written, it's TRUE.

The Weathermeister (aka: Dan) tells me: "FYI, wind direction for METARs and TAFs gets converted to magnetic."
