Garmin Handheld GPS Power Cord Plug

I phoned Garmin Product Support (800-800-1020) this morning to get a replacement power cord for my GPSMap 296. I use this GPS in the back seat of my RV-8 and after repeatedly connecting and disconnecting the power cord the plug finally broke. The unit is three years old and out of warranty so I expected to have to shell out $$$ for a new cord. Not so! They are sending me a replacement cord, free!
I told the service technician that the cord is difficult to plug in or remove and he acknowledged that it has been an issue and newer plugs/cords are somewhat easier. He did not recommend that the plug be modified by the user to make insertion easier. While the "new" cord he is sending me may not be the new design as they are exhausting the stock of "old" cords, he assured me that they would replace broken cords whenever I call. Now that's customer service! I'm a happy Garmin customer.
