Default Oil Screen -v- Oil Filter

I need to replace my cracked oil screen housing and that got me looking into alternatives to the oil screen set up. Obviously, a filter will lengthen the oil change intervals to 50 hours -v- 25, but are there any other reason I should make the change?

Why do I need a vernatherm in the Casper Labs oil filter housing? So cold oil will bypass the filter? Currently, my 0-235-C1 does not have or need an oil cooler so I don't have a vernatherm on the engine. I can't see spending $450 to convert to a filter when the screen set up works just fine.

Am I missing something here? Thoughts?
