Default Starter Bendix diagram

Pulled my starters bendix apart today, prestolite standard o-320 boat anchor style. Cannot remember the orientation of one part when I went to reassemble. The item is the part that rotates on the splines and has the spring and plug that stops the bendix gear from retracting until the engine starts. One end of this item is longer than the other. Is the long end pointing foreward or to the rear.

Peter,
I have a parts breakdown of the starter but it shows the bendix as one assembly.

I'm not sure where you will find a parts breakdown for the bendix.

I've had mine apart also but can't remember enough about the shapes to help you any.

Sorry I couldn't help.

Mark
