Default I carry a spare fuel cap

Since the pins on mine have broken at least twice away from home. Not sure if this means that I have something adjusted wrong. Plus I carry the normal assortment of spare parts.

Default LUBE THE BIG "O" RING

WITH EZ TURN LUBRICANT.... 06-07 SPRUCE CATALOG PAGE 355. A 5 OZ TUBE WILL LAST A LIFETIME. $11.70
AV GAS WILL NOT WASH THIS STUFF OFF!!

APPLY IT TO THE THE "O" RING AND THE TAPER THAT THE RING SETS IN. YOUR CAP WILL OPEN AND CLOSE WITH EASE AND YOU WON'T STRESS THE PIN.

ADJUST THE GRIP (LOCK NUT AND DISC) SO THE CAP WILL JUST DROP INTO THE TANK FILLER COLLAR WITH JUST SLIGHT PRESSURE AFTER A COATING OF THIS STUFF.

Smile The original instructions...

Here is a link to a copy I just made of the original Vans gas cap (aka "old style") instruction sheet.

I does show the assembly fairly well, and interestingly enough, does not show the pin as a separate item....

Default Parker -O-lube

Try lubing them with Parker O lube. That stuff is great for fixing leaks or lubing up anything that has an O-ring

EEEEK!

I tightened my new ones with what turns out to be the locknut! Seemed to work though as both the bottom half of the cap and the locknut turned at the same time and rate!

I will have to check further!
