Default Max start current

Howdy all

Anybody have a range for max amp draw on start?

I am going to install a main bus fuse on the ouput side of the main battery and would like a good number to start with (no pun intended ), as I plan to measure when I actually get far enough along to crank it.

Thanks,

Default Amperage data for Skytec Starters

If you're using a Skytec starter like 90% or more RV'ers do, then there is some tech data here on their website: http://www.skytecair.com/Lycoming.htm

You could probably use the higher number of amps shown on each model of starter as a good indication of the amount of peak inrush current.

150 amps plus rush-in current. DO NOT use a fuse for this. Not standard practice.

Default You might want to reconsider the idea ...

Thanks,
Fuse the alternator.
Fuse the various circuits.
But please consider only a "contactor" (master relay) for the battery output.

Some batteries can deliver several HUNDRED AMPS for a period of time for cranking!!
