Wingtips

I'm fitting up the wingtips on my RV-7. They seam to have 'shrunken' in since I bought them and they don't fit very well with the edges sitting inboard of the skins by 1/2 an inch or more. I found some threads that said people have been able to reshape the tips by heating them. I tried this with a hair dryer to the point the tip was too hot to touch. This made very little difference. How hot did people have to get the tips for this to work?
