Lord Mount question

I just received the Lord Mounts that were suggested in a previous thread. When I opened them I found that all mounts have a little "flat spot" on one edge of the outer lip. The flat spot has a little of the rubber removed down to bare metal.

At first I thought it was a defect but all four mounts are like this. Does any one know the significance of these flat spots?

I just looked at mine also and it looks to me that that is where they vulcanized the rubber to the metal and that was where they trimmed the little knob or extrusion off.
