Default Ill fitting wingtips on a -4

Mornin' all,
While helping my buddy fit his right wingtip on his almost-completed -4, we have a really lousy fitting wingtip. The aileron trailing edge is more than an inch lower than the wingtip trailing edge as it would sit in level flight.

We pondered and looked and scratched our heads about splitting it in the rear and halfway up the side to lower it to align with the aileron and reglassing but it looks like the lower part of the wingtip with its curve wouldn't bend. They're the older, hoerner type tips. Another friend said that there were some defective wingtips that Van replaced and we were wondering how many of you guys had similar problems and how you addressed them.

Thanks,
Pierre

Pierre,
This was very common with the earlier kits. I had to split the tip trailing edges on both the -6s I built (1989 vintage). The later tips have improved greatly, but the early ones had problems.
