Question For those that are AP's - O-360-A1A questions...

1. When should you replace the spark plugs? At a Hour mark (400 hours)? or just want until they fail the testing tool?

2. O-360-A1A with slick mags ... do they need a rebuild at 500 hours? or just do they need to be cleaned and retimed?

The manufacturers recommend replacement when the center electrode has worn to 1/2 of its original diameter. Or if it tests bad of course.

It depends on what model # the mags are. Early models (4000 series) were supposed to be thrown away and replaced with new at 500 hours.

The later model mags (4300 series is the most current) have a 500 hour inspection interval. Complete the inspection and replace any parts determined to need replacing, and you should be good to go for another 500 hours.

And following another thread on Superior Vantage engines...

Superior has kindly published the Slick Magneto Maintenance Manual (not available on the Unison site... ...) here....

http://www.superior-air-parts.com/Do...%20rev%20A.pdf

It's Appendix 1.

I would recommend replacing the points while you have the mag open for the 500 hour inspection. It's cheap insurance to help you get through the next 500 hours.
