Default Garmin 96C

Does anyone have experience with the Garmin 96C? I know it pales compared to the 296, but how's it work as strictly a GPS to keep you aware of airspace, ground track, etc. I might like to save the several hundred dollars for my project. Is the screen too small, too slow redraws, etc - or is it great as a little brother to the 296? Thanks!
