Default OT: Shuttle/747 Almost home

They're almost home, too bad no RV's saw it in flight, unless someone can see this post and get airborne quick before they land.

They just flew under all this!! Look at central Gerogia. Surprised they took the chance, but of course they did have the C-9 out front scouting.

Any idea why they chose Ft. Campbell, Ky. as a stop? Maybe it's just me but that seems somewhat out of the way, unless there were weather concerns.

They were already way off a direct line by going to Offutt the day before (to get around weather), and needed another fuel/weather/overnight stop on the way to KSC. This really was pretty much on a direct line once they'd gone to Omaha!

Mike,

Just to piggy back/ellaborate on what Paul said, The flight left Edwards on Sunday and flew to Amarillo for fuel and then northeast to Offutt in Nebraska due to wx. On Monday they flew from Offutt to Fort Campbell. Here are the threads covering all this:
