Default XP-360 Fuel Hose/Engine Mount Interference

Hey All:

Anyone else with the Superior XP-360 having this problem? My fuel pump to servo hose bumps the engine mount -- actually...it's resting on the mount -- this is unacceptable.

This fitting has the outlet for fuel pressure. This is the fitting Van's provides and I'm assuming the location of the fuel pump is pretty darn near close to being the same place it is on the Lycoming and ECI cases. So...what gives?

Anyone else see this problem? (this is an old picture, BTW)

Thanks in advance,

Default Longer line

Hi Jamie,
It looks like you can rotate the fitting on the outlet side of the pump coumterclockwise a little and make a new, longer fuel line. Since that particular motor mount tube angles inward, it should provide better clearance. Incidentally, you can use a piece of 2" or 1 1/2" black mil-spec hose as a standoff for cases like this. This is a picture of my buddy's -4 where the fuel line comes close to the gear leg and uses this type of standoff.

It allows the engine to move and the fuel line to "float" as it does.

Jamie,

Do you know Burt Carlisle? Check with him, he had similar problems and I don't remember all the circumstances, but had 3 different sets of lines made before he finally got one that worked correctly.

ps. were you able to get ahold of David Rowe on the hangar?

Pierre: Unfortunately mine is actually touching so the little stand-off will not work. I'm just a little dissapointed with Superior's hoses not working out, especially since the RV-7/-7A is probably the most popular aircraft their engine is going on. I'm trying to avoid making a new hose but I guess it looks like I'll have to do it.

Alan: Yep, I know Burt well. He's got the Ryton sump so his setup is quite a bit different from mine, but I'll give 'em a call and see what he says.

Jamie

If you need a longer line, you might find that Burt has one (of the many that he had made until he got the right one ).

Good luck, you getting closer?

Default Hose Issues

Jamie,

Check out my Firewall Forward section at http://adap.com/rv7. Most of my hoses seem to fit fairly well, but I did split the FI servo -> spider hose to accomodate the FloScan sensor. I am using a lot of adel clamps on these hoses as necessary.

Jamie,

I'm more that willing to come help... Should I bring a fire extinquisher, a video camera, a pair of eyes, a handheld radio, all the above?

Keep me posted on timing and I'll be there to help in anyway possible.

Good Luck!
