Default -6A down in Texas

I'm getting word a -6A (not confirmed) went down after take off near Boerne, TX today. Fatality. Pilot in the news stories was John Howard Key of Kendall County (headed for Houston). Even if it wasn't a RV this is a tragedy, and my condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Key.

Another sad accident. Is anyone familiar with the terrain at this strip? Would there have been some reason to use 04 with a 10 knot tailwind?

This would result in a lower climb gradient and 20 knot higher ground speed at impact.

Engine failure right after takeoff over ravines like this leaves pilots with few options.

I'm very sorry for this family's loss.

No one said there was a tailwind. The report gave the nearest reporting station wx, 24nm away.
