Thanks to Al for a wonderful week!!
Thanks, Al, for ferrying the plane, and for a wonderful week of learning...great summary of the process.
Did my first cross-country today (Seattle to Bellingham for lunch with my older daughter), and took my first passenger (took my daughter for a "Tour de San Juan Islands" flight).
The plane is so fast and responsive...such fun to fly!! Made 195 mph over ground today...not a speed I'm used to seeing in my previous plane...
I came back and did some pattern work in my J3 Cub from 1940...to keep the oil moving in her until I can find her a good home...and to allow for some "compare and contrast". As Al predicted, getting back into the Cub was like putting on an old pair of comfy slippers. Until flying the RV8, I did not realize that I was landing the Cub at walking speed!
If only I could get photos to attach here...you'd see a double RV grin, mine and that of my first pax...
Again, thanks to Al for his gracious mentorship, patience, and skill.
Seth

Seth: congrats, beautiful RV-8!
What a coincidence; I just happened to be airport bumming at BFI (bought some engine oil down at National Aircraft Supply) yesterday morning and noticed a nice RV-8 at the north tiedown area I hadn't seen before. Parked briefly by the security gate to check her out. Now, here on VAF, I'm reading the whole awesome story!
Enjoy your new ride, hope to see you around the patch.

Seth,
Looks like a nice RV-8. Congrats! The RV-8 is a great airplane. You'll love it.
I noticed in one of the photos that the Oil Pressure was showing 38 PSI at 25" MP/2560 RPM. If the reading is correct, it is quite low and below Lycoming's minimum of 55 PSI for Normal Operation for the O-360.
But, the 38 PSI reading is about centered in the Green Band on the EMS, which is odd if it was really 38 PSI. That may be a clue that the EMS reading is off (miss-set in the settings somewhere) by some factor, like 2 (as well as the color bands). 38 PSI X 2 = 76 PSI, which would be a normal reading.
Hopefully there is a simple explanation.

Watch for changes
For now watch for changes. If it runs at the same ?psi? on the gauge every time then when it changes take notice.
Might have a mechanic T in a calibrated gauge during the condition inspection to see what the actual pressure is to compare. Program the MCL as required.
