GAP 26/Static system question

I just purchased a Garmin GAP 26 Pitot/AOA probe. Is there an official position/consensus regarding the static source for the probe; i.e. is the probe static source dedicated for the G3 only?

Asked another way: Can the "typical" static source system be eliminated; AOA static source be utilized for other instruments?

Forgive me if this has been asked/answered before.

Most people just use the Vans static source for altimeter, airspeed, etc., and AOA data. No separate static source just for AOA.

The GAP 26 has a connection for the Pitot and AOA inputs on the GSU 25. There is no static connection from the Pitot tube. You will need to run a dedicated static line from the GSU 25 to a suitable location on the airframe for a static port.

We have not done any testing with that equipment and our Pitot tube, I am not sure of the compatibility between the two.

Very informative, thanks ! It also clears up how the regulated pitot tube warms up when turned on, even on the hottest days. A pilot on another forum is saying it might be better to just turn on the pitot tube every time you fly regardless of temps because after a few years flying with his turned mostly off the water has started to corrode the inside of his pitot tube, even with clear drains.

Dynon told me this morning that their pitot tube turns on below 45 degrees. That makes me thing that with regular summer flying even with the switch ON it wouldn't evaporate the water in the tube. Just another thing I'm going to have to get clarification from Dynon on.

So does Garmin sell just the heating element for field replacement or do I need to buy an entire new pitot tube if the heater goes bad?
