Basic solder skills are part of the learning process when building. Crimped terminals are standard for wire termination but I never use anything other than solder and heat shrink for a splice. I do not use solder sleeve for anything.

Many people say a solder joint is ?brittle?. Sure it is, just like a crimped joint. Basic wire routing and support that eliminates wire flexing applies to both.

Someone at NASA thinks solder sleeves are acceptable for butt splices when properly applied. This means having the right size so that the sleeve provides a strain relief.
