Also, don't overlook doing a little bit of investigating on your own to identify hangars that don't have aircraft in them (filled with furniture, cars, boats, what have you). If the airport took federal money in the last 25 years for *anything*, then aircraft take precedence and the non-aviation user must move out. This has been a problem at our home field for many years now, and every so often they talk about getting tough and freeing up hangars for airplanes, but I've yet to see it happen. A buddy had to actually go to the airport manager and hint at going to the FAA before he got movement on getting a hangar, after being on a mysterious "waiting list" for several years.

Rules apply to all hangars, too, not just the airport-owned ones...

Default Hanger space

I own two 5000 sq” hangers. I have space for 2 RV s right now. You could move your plane in today. Lights, toilet, shower. $350 per month.

I built both the 6 and 10 in the garage. The 6 required much more final assembly than the 10. I completed everything possible in the garage, including terminations on all wires that would pass through the spar (unique issue for 4/6). I had only a tie down at the airport and it took me about a week (full time) for final assembly. That was summer. The 10 is going to the airport this week and I had to rent a hanger due to the colder temps and inability to do all that work outside.

I would argue that 99.5% of the work can be done in the garage. My 6 had to sit on the ramp for 6 months until I got a hanger. Need to make or buy a nice cover and do some sealing with silicon to help keep the water out. I am sure many would cringe at leaving their baby outside more than an hour or two, but reality is reality and hangers can be tough to get in some places.
