Default Aviation Frat?s Charity Poker To Deal Winning Hand To Angel Flight

Columbus ? Alpha Eta Rho, a professional aviation fraternity at Ohio State University, is holding a charity poker run on May 19 (rain date is May 26) to raise funds for Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic. All pilots are invited to participate.

Angel Flight is a nonprofit charity based in Virginia Beach that coordinates travel missions of 1,000 miles or less and uses a network of volunteer pilots and their private planes to fly patients in need to distant treatment facilities, usually for specialized care. All flights are free, with costs of fuel, maintenance and repair covered by the pilots. More than 1,500 pilots in the Mid-Atlantic region fly these missions of mercy.

Registered pilots will fly to a series of designated airports beginning and ending at Ohio State?s Don Scott Field (KOSU). The top three finishers will win quality prizes donated by sponsoring companies, with the grand prize being dual time in a Diamond Twin Star, courtesy of Midwest Corporate Air. Funky fun prizes will be awarded to all participating pilots.

Registration and breakfast will be from 7:00-9:00 a.m., at Don Scott Field, followed by a pilot?s meeting from 9:15-9:45. The Poker Run is from 10:00-2:00, with lunch and awards from 1:00-4:00.

Proceeds from registration fees ($50 per aircraft) and additional donations will be given to Angel Flight. Garrett Ackerman, a student at Ohio State and the event?s chief organizer, explains that his fraternity chose Angel Flight as the beneficiary because ?one of [Alpha Eta Rho?s] primary goals is to instill in the public mind a confidence in aviation and we feel that Angel Flight matches that goal by reaching beyond aviation to positively impact those who need assistance here in our own community. ?

For information about registering or to learn more about the event, call Garrett at 614-543-0468 or 614-493-1290 (cell). You can also visit the fraternity website: http://ahp.org.ohio-state.edu. Online registration will be offered as well.

Alpha Eta Rho is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization.
