Default Logging Software updates

A post today from Garmin on a software update for the GDL82 got me thinking about logging software versions. I do not have a lot of glass in my panel so do not have a lot of software, and none of it is for a min required equip instruments. I have a spreadsheet I maintain of all my hardware and if they have software, what version is loaded in it. i have this spreadsheet as an appendix to my POH. Most is firmware and not updated therefore I have not really reloaded any software.

What is the recommended process for logging software updates? Should I make a maintenance logbook entry? Just update my equipment spreadsheet? Neither? Both?

I log software versions on my logbook every time i upgrade. Makes it easy to check configurations during conditional inspection.

The information that I post is just that; information and my own personal experiences. You need to weight out the pros and cons and make up your own mind/decisions. The pictures posted may not show the final stage or configuration. Build at your own risk.
